Between the 3rd of July and the 3rd of September, Kino Pod Baranami presents Kinobranie - the 9th Summer Film Festival. An annual event, which has gained great popularity among movie-goers, and screens the most acclaimed films made in recent years, independent pictures and cinema classics.

Tickets cost only 7 PLN!



The ninth year of Kinobranie consists of 9 thematic cycles, featuring both new and classic movies, taking into account some of the Pod Baranami Cinema viewers’ wishes. This year's two-month movie marathon includes a record 168 titles! The leitmotif of Kinobranie 2015 are oppositions and paradoxes, which show the diversity of forms, genres, aesthetics and film themes. Each weekly cycle is composed of films representing two opposite categories, such as: "Youth & maturity", "Love & loneliness", "Light & darkness", "Strength & weakness", "Calm & crazy", "Tears & laughter", etc. When opposites meet, a third dimension emerges - sometimes we feel lonely in a relationship or we smile through the tears; often there is a ray of light in the darkness and it is not so far from peace to madness.

The programme is comprised of the most acclaimed, award-winning movies of last season (eg. Birdman, Gods, Boyhood, Ida), independent pictures (eg. Difret, Breathe), golden classics (eg. The Shining, La Strada), cult films (eg. Mad Max & Mad Max. Fury Road, The Hunger Games trilogy), daring documentaries (eg. Oscar-nominated Joanna, travelogues: Antarctica: A Year on Ice and Beyond the Edge, picturesque A Piece of Podlasie), and anime movies (Grave of the Fireflies, Wolf Children). Some of the titles will be screened on 35mm prints and certain Polish films will be shown with English subtitles. There will also be included a selection of digitally-restored masterpieces of Polish cinema (A Short Film About Love, Interrogation). The festival also includes open-air screenings on the terrace of the historic Pod Baranami Palace.



Kinobranie gives viewers the opportunity to enjoy the works of the most renowned directors (Allen, Lynch, Kubrick, Cronenberg, Scorsese, Fellini, von Trier) and brilliant newcomers (Whiplash by Chazelle, Kebab & Horoscope by Jaroszuk), as well as film stars: Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Julianne Moore (Maps to the Stars), Andrzej Chyra (Carte Blanche) or Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games). Audiences will visit the most remote corners of the world: Scandinavia (eg. Dogme films: Festen, Breaking the Waves), Russia (Leviathan), Palestine (Omar), Japan (Departures), Chile (Gloria), Abkhazia (Tangerines) or New Zealand (What We Do in the Shadows).

Over 400 film screenings will be accompanied by a series of special events and the Relax Zone on the terrace of Pod Baranami Palace where guests can pause for a moment and relax on comfortable deckchairs, discuss the movies or play a themed board game. Poster lovers and collectors are welcome to join the Plakatobranie event - come and pick up some treasures from Pod Baranami Cinema’s poster collection! This year - for the first time ever - the festival will be accompanied by weekend screenings for children (for English-speaking audiences: Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants, July 17-19; Shaun the Sheep Movie, July 24-26).
