CINEMA ITALIA OGGI 2018
- Italian films festiwal

April 9-13, 2018
Kino Pod Baranami

Cinema Italia Oggi - Italian films festival organised by Italian Cultural Institute and Cinecittà Luce has started at Kino Pod Baranami. On screen award-winning film productions, appreciated both by the viewers, as well as film critics around the world. Selected films will be presented in original version with both Polish and English subtitles.

At this year’s edition of Cinema Italia Oggi the viewers in Krakow will see moving stories about love and human connection and cheer on the protagonists in their struggle to turn their lives around. Among many others, the programme includes a comedy-drama directed by Francesca Comencini. Her Stories of Love That Cannot Belong To This World present two people looking for a new beginning after ending a long-term relationship. In Made in Italy director and musician Luciano Ligabue created his alter ego - a middle-aged man, whose stable life and marriage seems to be falling apart. The film stars Stefano Accorsi (The Young Pope TV series) and a Polish actress Kasia Smutniak (Perfect Strangers). Paolo Taviani’s war drama Rainbow - A Private Affair tells a story of an Italian partisan forced to choose between fighting for the Resistance and his obsession with a girl he has fallen for. The audience gathered at Kino Pod Baranami will witness the power of first love during the screening of Sicilian Ghost Story by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza. It is a tale about Luna, a brave girl smitten with her handsome classmate, who ventures into the enchanted forests trying to solve the mystery of his strange disappearance. Francesco Bruni’s Friends by Chance is a multi-layered portrayal of an unexpected friendship between an elderly poet suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and a young man helping him retrieve his memories.

Alessandro is a 22-year-old turbulent and ignorant slacker from Trastevere, in Rome. He has lost his mother when he was two, and has become the torment of his father – a peddler in Porta Portese, the local flea-market – who can’t imagine a future for that idle and furious son, and is unable to find the key to his heart.
Giorgio is eighty-five: he is a forgotten poet, who lives in solitude and restraint in a flat on the Gianicolo Hill, with the only help and care of his landlady and neighbor. He is in an early stage of the Alzheimer syndrome: he can still move, but his mind is drifting relentlessly away from the present.
The two live within a stone’s throw from one another, but their paths have never crossed, and couldn’t be more distant. But this story puts them together, when Alessandro is offered to accompany the old man in his afternoon walks, and is forced to accept the job.
