MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2018
Sunday, October 7, 2018, 6.45 p.m.
Kino Pod Baranami

Once again, Kino Pod Baranami will be hosting Manhattan Short Film Festival - a unique screening of extraordinary short films. On Sunday, October 7, participants of the show in Krakow will see nine productions qualified for the final selection, from which - together with the viewers around the world - they will pick the best one.

Manhattan Short Film Festival is the only film festival in the world taking place simultaneously at over 300 theatres, on six continents, gathering hundreds of thousands of moviegoers around the globe. This year, Manhattan Short received 1565 entries from 73 countries from which nine finalists were selected.

When the festival began in 1998, Finalists' Films have been reviewed by panels of celebrity judges including Susan Sarandon, Eric Stoltz, Laura Linney, Roger Corman and Tim Robbins. Soon afterwards, the You Be the Judge! concept was implemented - the judging of the films was handed over to the public. Together with audiences all over the world the viewers at Kino Pod Baranami will choose the winner.

This year’s finalists include a chilling ghost story Baghead by Alberto Corredor Marina and Phil Brough’s animated short Fire in Cardboard City, which was nominated for a Crystal Bear in Generation Kplus section at Berlinale. As usual, the Festival welcomes new, up-and-coming directors, such as Slumdog Millionaire’s star Dev Patel. His dramedy Home Shopper starring Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) is a story of an unhappy married woman trying to escape loneliness by entering a world of home shopping. The viewers will also see the film Her by More Raca, a young filmmaker from Kosovo. It is a moving tale about seeking freedom against family expectations.
Another picture fighting for the main prize is an intriguing Marcus Markou’s short drama Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times about an unexpected friendship between two men who meet at different moments of their lives and develop trust despite prejudice. Director Marco Gadge in the film Someone presents World World II from a perspective rarely shown on screen, showing German citizens as victims of hate and cruelty. Hungarian comedy drama Chuchotage by Barnabás Tóth is a wonderfully funny story about two interpreters fighting for the attention of the same woman.
The viewers might also want to vote for the Special Jury Prize winner at Sundance, Fauve, a gripping portrayal of rivalry between young boys taking a dangerous turn, directed by Jérémy Comte. The screening will end with Lacrimosa, an award-winning surreal love story created by Tanja Mairitsch.

All films will be presented in original version with English subtitles.
