Umbra - special screening 2016

On Friday, October 14, a special screening of Urszula Nawrot’s short film Umbra will take place at Kino Pod Baranami. Awarded at IFF in New York City and Art Film Festival in Cannes, Umbra is a moving story with no dialogue, in which the director deals with one of the most difficult themes in human relations, while searching for the truth about good and evil, freedom and forgiveness.
It is hard to stay indiffirent to Urszula Nawrot’s film, as it tells a story of a seduced girl and a trauma causing the fall of a woman trying to break free from a toxic facination with her tormentor. Urszula Nawrot has not only directed the film and played the main role, but she is also the author of the script, as well as the set designer and producer of the film. Her partners are Leszek Bzdyl and a young actress Michalina Wiśniewska. This award winning film reveals the nature of good and evil through image, music and dance. Multiple references to the works of European painters, holding a deep moral meaning, makes Umbra a modern morality play.

An allegorical picture about discovering oneself on a conscious and subconscious level, about reaching out into the deepest, hidden secrets. Through symbols, music and dance it tells a story of a girl gone missing and later a woman seduced by the “evil touch” who cannot break free from it and fights her emotions towards her tormentor.
It presents the never ending search for fullfillment, succumbing to weaknesses, defeating them and finding the line between good and evil, as well as the road towards freedom through forgiveness.
