KINOKLASYKA: DELUGE REDIVIVUS
- new version of Polish classic film with English subtitles
Saturday & Sunday (October 4 & 5 2014) 11.30 a.m.
Cinema Pod Baranami invites English-speaking audience to the new version of Polish film by Jerzy Hoffman, Potop Redivivus (Deluge Redivivus). The movie will be shown with English subtitles. Screenings will take place on October 4 and 5, at 11.30 a.m.
Deluge from 1974 was one of the largest productions in the history of Polish cinema in those days. Jerzy Hoffman's work was received with great interest from the audience and gained many enthusiastic reviews after its release. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won many other awards.
Digitally remastered Deluge Redivivus (2014) is shorter, more dynamic and modern.
Jerzy Hoffman in his version of Sienkiewicz's novel focused on the internal transformation of the main hero, Andrzej Kmicic, who was the adventurer at the beginning and has become a model of patriotism and courage then.
Despite many initial protests against casting Daniel Olbrychski as the main character in Hoffman’s film, his excellent performance in Deluge was appreciated at numerous festivals and today is listed as one of his best roles. In addition, the film features many great Polish actors such as Małgorzata Braunek, Tadeusz Łomnicki and Kazimierz Wichniarz.
Kinoklasyka is a series of the best and most important Polish films which are shown after digital reconstruction in such quality that allows a full commitment to the spirit and virtuosity of artists.
