About Love Among OTHERS 2013

ABOUT LOVE AMONG OTHERS
- 6th festival of films about sexual minorities

May 20-25, 2013

The sixth edition of ABOUT LOVE AMONG OTHERS, presentation of films about sexual minorities, will be held between May 20th and 25th. The event is organised by Kino Pod Baranami and Goethe-Institut Krakow.

The programme consists of both feature films and documentaries that explore the topics of sexual orientation in the broad social, cultural and historical context. The festival audience will be the first in Poland to see the new film by Alan Brown - Five Dances. There will be also two other Polish premieres. The Invisible Men is a deeply touching documentary about homosexuals from the Palestinian territory who, for fear of lynching, decide on an illegal stay in Tel Aviv. The second premiere - Facing Mirrors - is the first Iranian film in history with a transsexual protagonist. There will also be a section devoted to the theme of love between women that features films by Lisa Cholodenko (High Art) and Alexandra-Therese Keining (Kiss Me).

During the nighttime documentary section - Late Nights With Docs - presented with the support of Mayfly (Rainbow Collection), the Festival will present the works of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman that portray the most important people and events in the history of American and German homosexual circles.

After the screening of Naked Opera (on Saturday, May 25th at 8:30 p.m.) the documentary's main character - Marc Rollinger - will meet with the audience. The festival's special guest is well known for his hedonistic lifestyle and his love for the „Don Giovanni” opera: he has travelled the world searching for its best staging.

FIVE DANCES | FIVE DANCES
dir. Alan Brown, USA 2013, 83’ - Polish premiere!
(in English with PL subtitles)

The classic tale of finding success and romance in the big city is given a contemporary, and unconventional spin in Alan Brown's new film. FIVE DANCES tells a story of Chip, an extraordinarily talented 18 year-old recently arrived from Kansas who joins a small downtown modern dance company. In his first weeks of rehearsal, Chip is confronted with the real life of a New York dancer, where every minute is filled with discipline and endless hard work, camaraderie and competitiveness, the fear of not being good enough, and the joy of getting it just right. Shooting in and around a Soho dance studio, Brown and his longtime cinematographer Derek McKane capture the exhilaration and emotional turmoil of a small dance company, and all of Chip's poignant firsts - the forging of friendships, being chosen for the important solo, his first ever love affair - with the intimacy and immediacy of a documentary.
