Debiutancka animacja José Miguela Ribeiry została oparta na opowiadaniu Black Box autorstwa duetu pisarskiego Mia Couto i José Eduardo Agualusa. To historia trzech kobiet reprezentujących różne pokolenia, na których losach odcisnęła swoje piętno kilkudziesięcioletnia wojna.
Nayola brała udział w krwawej wojnie, a teraz przez lata poszukuje zaginionego męża. Lelena straciła w wojnie wielu członków rodziny. Yara, niepokorna nastolatka i raperka tworząca antysystemowe teksty, w konflikcie zbrojnym straciła rodziców i jest wychowywana przez babcię.
Nayola to ważny, trudny, a zarazem znakomicie zrealizowany film animowany, przypominający o wyniszczającej sile wojny.
| José Miguel Ribeiro's debut animation is based on the short story Black Box by writing duo Mia Couto and José Eduardo Agualusa. It is the story of three women representing different generations: grandmother Lelena, her daughter Nayola and her granddaughter Yara, on all of whom the decades-long war in Angola has left its brutal mark. Nayola took part in the bloody war that took away her husband, whom she has been relentlessly and unsuccessfully searching for. Lelena lost her husband and daughter in the war, who was lost for many years and was unable to return home even after the fighting stopped. And finally Yara, a rebellious teenager and rapper making anti-systemic lyrics, who lost her parents in the armed conflict and is being raised by her grandmother. A very important and difficult, visually stunning animated film, reminding us of the devastating force of war which is still not a thing of the past.
