On November 11th, arthouse cinemas throughout Poland celebrate Polish Cinema Day. Their repertoire will be dominated by excellent Polish films. On this occasion, a film portrait of the phenomenal Kalina Jędrusik - Autumn Girl - will be screened as a pre-premiere at Małopolski Ogród Sztuki (Rajska 12 Street). Furthermore, Kino Pod Baranami will also be screening Fears, which won the main prize at Gdynia Film Festival.


Polish Cinema Day is a nationwide initiative of arthouse cinemas which, on 11 November, will focus on Polish cinema. By offering a wide selection of productions with "made in Poland" label, they remind of the high quality of Polish cinema.


Kino Pod Baranami also joins these celebrations by showing Katarzyna Klimkiewicz's Autumn Girl, which focuses on the Polish actress, singer and scandalist Kalina Jędrusik. The pre-premiere screening will take place at 4.45 p.m. in Małopolski Ogród Sztuki (Rajska 12 Street).


On November 11th Kino Pod Baranami will also screen films awarded at Gdynia Film Festival: Fears by Łukasz Ronduda and Łukasz Gutt (main festival prize: Golden Lions), and My Wonderful Life by Łukasz Grzegorzek (award for the best director). Kuba Michalczuk's bravura comedy In-Laws and Wojciech Smarzowski's scandalous The Wedding Day are also still present on cinema screens.


All films will be screened with English subtitles.

AUTUMN GIRL | BO WE MNIE JEST SEKS
(Katarzyna Klimkiewicz) PL 2021, 105'

The turn of 1962 and 1963. Kalina Jedrusik's star shines with full brilliance. The actress is the happy wife of Stanislaw Dygat, she also has a hot romance with a young singer, whom her husband completely accepts. However, her shameless joy in life offends and outrages many. After her performance at Barbórka, the artist learns that the cross, exposed on a deep neckline, shocked the people's authorities. He is banned from appearing on television, which is an opportunity for a high-ranking official working on television to take revenge for his unrequited affection. How will he act in this situation? Will she manage to remain independent?

 

FEARS | WSZYSTKIE NASZE STRACHY

The relationship between the artist Daniel and Olek develops in secret. A teenage lesbian suicide triggers Daniel's fight to hit himself in the chest of the community. He is trying to organize a way of the cross for the girl. The people of his village turn their backs on him, Daniel tries to find understanding in the metropolitan world of art galleries. Based on facts, the story of Daniel, an artist from the countryside, strongly involved in the activities of the Catholic Church.

 

IN-LAWS | TEŚCIOWIE

Is the wedding party a sure-fire disaster if the wedding is cancelled? Certainly. And what a disaster it is! Everything sets the two families apart – their background, status, wealth and taste. Initially, the parents of the groom and the bride are simply shocked. What happened? Who is responsible for this? What about the wedding party? Should we welcome the guests? Let the music play? Pour drinks? Who will cut the cake? From one word to the next, pleasant smiles turn into a nasty public quarrel. That’s when the real shocker comes… In the meantime, the wedding party grows really wild. And no one seems to be missing the bride and groom.

 

MY WONDERFUL LIFE | MOJE WSPANIAŁE ŻYCIE

A caring daughter, a laid-back mother, a popular teacher, a wife you are thick as thieves with – Joanna – is outstanding in each of these roles. But in none of them does she feel like herself. That is why she leads a double life. She has a secret she shares with no-one. Because if anyone knew, it would put an end to all the ‘wonderful’ things in her life. A story of a woman who does not want to be a good girl anymore. But is she brave enough to rebel, shake up her marriage, lose her reputation and reach for what she really cares about?

 

THE WEDDING DAY | WESELE

The story of a WWII tragedy in a Polish village mixed with the story of a wedding taking place in the same place 100 years later. A bitter look at a xenophobic community that forgets its own history.
