POLISH FILMS IN ENGLISH is Kino Pod Baranami's cycle of screenings specially for English speaking viewers.

Once every two weeks, on Tuesday, we will screen Polish film with English subtitles 
- something which you will not encounter anywhere else!

MAN OF MARBLE | CZŁOWIEK Z MARMURU

One of the most important films in the history of Polish cinematography. Agnieszka (Krystyna Janda), a Film School student, is completing her diploma film in 1976. Examining the life of a bricklayer from Nowa Huta in Krakow, she discovers a more general truth about the bitter years of the Stalinist 1950s in Poland.

CAMOUFLAGE | BARWY OCHRONNE

Psychological drama set among Polish academics. It juxtaposes two moral ideas: one of a young and honest idealist and the other of a corrupt cynic. An acclaimed film, ranked among the famous cinema of moral anxiety, which accurately presents the social situation, dilemmas and individual choices in Poland in 1970s.

A story of a sensitive 18-year-old girl and a young gangster, whose fates meet in a mental hospital, where both are being treated. The fruit of this meeting will, of course, be the start of a relationship. One of the best recent productions in Polish cinema: light, intelligent and with great performances by young actors.

THE BIRCH WOOD | BRZEZINA

A young pianist, dying of tuberculosis, retreats to the farm of his brother, who recently lost his young wife. In the silence of the woods, the desperately fun-loving pianist and his deeply suffering brother clash. An homage to life, based on a Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s writings, with expressive performances, and the beauty and depths of the forests.
