Oscar® Nominated Shorts 2019

OSCAR® NOMINATED SHORTS 2019:
Live Action & Animation

February 22-23, 201
9
Kino Pod Baranami

On February 22-23, Kino Pod Baranami and Ad Arte Foundation present Oscar® Nominated Shorts - ten live action and animated short films, which will be competing for 2019 Academy Awards.

During this year’s ceremony seventeen short films have a chance for a golden statue in three categories for animated, live action and documentary shorts. Although they are getting less media attention than full-length pictures, short films present important and inspiring stories, often in an amazingly innovative form.

Kino Pod Baranami will present a total of ten feature and animated productions. The screening of short live action films will open with a thrilling drama Madre directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, in which every parent's nightmare is fulfilled. The screen will also feature Fauve by Jérémy Comte, winner of the Special Jury Prize at last year's Sundance Film Festival, a tale about boys’ rivalry set in an open-pit mine. In Marguerite, Marianne Farley tells the story of an unexpected friendship that forces an elderly woman to confront her own feelings. Inspired by real life events, Vincent Lambe's Detainment will take the viewers back to 1993 when two ten-year-old boys were accused of murder. The set of actors' films will close with Skin by Guy Nattiv, a moving story, in which one small gesture is enough to lead to a bloodshed.

Among short animations, participants of the screening will see a charming film Bao by Domee Shi about a woman who once again experiences the joy of motherhood thanks to a very unusual dumpling. Louise Bagnall, who has worked, among others, on the Secrets of the Sea (2014), in her new production Late Afternoon invites the audience on a journey into the past. Animal Behaviour directed by Alison Snowden is a humorous story of five animals sharing their fears during group therapy. Krakow viewers will also have the opportunity to see one of the winners of the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Trevor Jimenez's Weekends - a tale about a boy trying to cope with the divorce of his parents. The evening will end with a screening of Andrew Chesworth and Bobby Pontillas' film One Small Step, which tells the story of a girl who dreams of flying into space.

All films will be presented in original version with Polish and English subtitles

Ad Arte Foundation is the exclusive Polish distributor of two Oscar® Nominated Shorts sets – live action and animation.
