18. Spanish Film Week - films with English subtitles

18. SPANISH FILM WEEK
March 15-21, 2018
Kino Pod Baranami

Spanish Film Week, a traditional review of the most interesting recent Spanish film productions, has started at Kino Pod Baranami. For the 18th time best pictures Spanish cinema has to offer will appear in nine Polish cities, including Krakow.

At this year’s edition of Spanish Film Week five extraordinary feature films will be presented with English subtitles, including moving tales about passion and the power of human emotions. Among them Pedro Aguilera’s Demonios tus ojos, a sensual portrayal of a forbidden fascination between a film director and his step-sister (played by Ivana Baquero known from Pan’s Labyrinth). Esteban Crespo’s debut feature Amar tells the story of young love, its first experiments and first disappointments. In his second feature, Morir, Fernando Franco presents a story about two people struggling with the most difficult thing in their lives - accepting the loss of their loved one.

In his remarkable directorial debut Skins, Spanish actor Eduardo Casanova, brings an unconventional story made of symmetrical pink and purple frames. It is a multi-layered surreal tragicomedy filled with unusual characters struggling with body deformities. The review will end with a screening of The Motive, in which the director Manuel Martín Cuenca blurres the lines between fiction and reality. The main character obsessed with the idea of writing "high literature" starts to cause conflicts around him to have something to write about. Starring Goya Award winners: Javier Gutiérrez and María León.

The characters living in this unreal, pink-filled world have a love-hate relationship with their bodies. Their deformities make it incredibly difficult for them to find their own place between other people. As it happens, external beauty does not seem to be the most important.
An original, funny affirmation of human physicality, even in its most unusual shape.
